The Thoughtful Equitation Club

Welcome to the Thoughtful Equitation Club

We are building a community of like-mind horse people who are interested in keeping and training horses in humane and science-based ways which hold their welfare as paramount.

As a community, we welcome all who share that goal and treat each other with the same respect and consideration that we show our horses -though lively discussion is encouraged, it is done within the rules of compassionate and progressive debate. This is a place for modern, humane equestrianism and all who seek a relationship with their horse based on trust, consent and welfare.

We don’t care whether you are a novice or a professional, whether you are new to horses or are an established horseperson, whether you have a background in positive reinforcement or are exploring these training methods for the first time – all who share our aims are welcome here.

Within the Thoughtful Equitation Club, we consider in depth the neurology, psychology, behaviour and husbandry of the horse, as well as practical applications of the theory for the benefit of our equines. We also explore areas of human psychology which can improve our training and horse keeping.

As a member of the Thoughtful Equitation Club, each month you can take part in our club webinar which will explore a wide range of interesting topics, join the open forum live (a horse training and behaviour question and answer session) and have access to a community of supportive and like-minded horse people. All for only £19.99 a month.

Through membership you will gain:

  • access to modern, science-based information on horse training, psychology, behaviour and husbandry covering a wide variety of subjects
  • guides to the practical application of the theory to benefit you and your horse, both with regards to your training and your relationship with your horse
  • access to personalised, practical advice on your horse training and husbandry rooted in a humane, welfare-orientated ethos
  • being welcomed into a community of like-minded, compassionate horse people (we all know that it can sometimes feel lonely in the horse world)

About Dr Emma Lethbridge

Part neuroscientist, part horse fanatic, Emma is fascinated by the equine brain and how horses perceive and respond to their world. Emma has 34 years’ experience with horses, having been lucky enough to have been riding since she was four.

Emma has studied horses to master’s level, read a degree in neuroscience and obtained a PhD in neuropsychology; she has also owned her own horses, ridden in affiliated competitions, worked on professional yards, acted as director to an equine learning centre, taught riding, helped many people with their horse’s behaviour and, more importantly than all of that combined, she has come to love equines not for what they can do for us, but for the wonderful creatures they are in their own right.
